0.3.1 is live!

Good evening!

After much deliberation and several unusual ninja-related incidents, 0.3.1 has finally been released! This update continues the main story, as well as fixing a few more bugs and adding some new items. Download it from the downloads page!

Next up... some of the maps were made when I was pretty green at this whole map-making thing, and it shows. I'm going to do a playthrough myself, and go over old maps with a fine-toothed comb, adding some more details as I go through each map.

NEW CONTENT:
-The main story continues. For those who reached its previous end, visit Castle Evrandel and talk to the Knight at its gates to continue.
-In a lonely Assembly in Defia, a healer rewards those who have cured many innocents of injury and illness.
-The mysterious bank of fog that just popped up north of Brumar... is absolutely useless right now! But there's going to be more to it. Trust me on this.

BUGFIXES:
-Enemies with animated battle sprites have had their pictures in the Bestiary fixed.
-A number of Bestiary entries had "spacing numbers" removed.
-Some of the Tier 3 potions that had erratic effects or were missing animations have had these problems corrected.
-The Storm Elemental's Storm Bane now properly displays its "Inflicts Wind Weakness if not Blocked" component.

PREVIOUSLY KNOWN ISSUES (Patched late 8/18):
-A single NPC lacked dialogue in the Royal Castle.
-Marissa would be standing around the castle after the event where she appears.
-A few ninjas were a little too eager to climb around on the Dojo roof. Master Kazu appreciated that they were taking the initiative, but the Dojo can't have people climbing around on its walls and distracting people, so this has been patched.

0.3.1 Status Report

Good evening!

It's already been more than three weeks since I uploaded 0.3.0, and I should leave a progress report on 0.3.1, the next update to Ruphand that will see the release of at least one new main story dungeon as well as a few other side areas.

I've taken a while to relax, and the main thing I've done right now is mapping Evrandel Castle. I've also gotten rid of a few bugs. In 0.3.1, the Bestiary will now display sprites for animated enemies like the Bandits!

I'm hoping to have the next update ready by June 30. I'll see you then!

Edit as of 6/28: It's unlikely that I'll be able to finish the update by the 30th. So, I'll update this page with my progress on the update every Saturday, as before.

Edit as of 8/17: The update is ready. I'll have it posted shortly!
  • Evrandel Royal Castle: 100% complete (A little detail work and a few NPCs are all that's left)
  • Lonely Assembly: 100% complete (When 0.3.1 arrives, you'll find a little building on a hill around central Kitaban. There's only a single occupant, but she's well worth talking to. 7/4: Planning and dialogue complete for rewards.)
  • Town: 100% Complete (Still a lot of work to do on this town, as it's going to have both story content and some new gear that makes use of Mythril Lodes - 8/15: New gear figured out. All it really needs are a few more flavor NPCs and the shop's implementation.)
  • Main Story Dungeon: 100% Complete (8/15: Bugs fixed, dungeon completed and tested.)
  • Standalone Boss: 100% Complete (An alternative to the above, that will be engaged by using a special item on the World Map. One of the toughest parts is more or less over but there's still a lot to do - 8/15: Really, all that's left is handling a few odd conditions.)

0.3.0 is live!

Evening, ladies and gentlemen! In this turbulent time, I have some amazing news!

Well, okay, I'm gonna be honest. It's just pretty good news. It's pretty awesome to me, but your mileage might vary a little. (though I hope it doesn't vary too much because I put some hours into this but let me know if it does I want this to be awesome and rad)

Anyway, here is the news of indeterminate goodness I'm harping on about: 0.3.0 is live!

NEW CONTENT:
-The rest of the Arkenvali Academy is now open! And who knows- there's bound to be some secret places in an old school of magic... I'm fairly certain there's at least one den of monsters in the general vicinity.
-There may or may not have been some changes to Mt. Gwylio. I cannot confirm or deny the presence of Kobolds, because they told me to keep mum about it. ...oh, drat! Well, I'm not spoiling anything else- just make sure you stop by the Academy before going looking for secrets on Gwylio.
-The main story continues, with a new dungeon! For those who reached its end previously, your next stop is the Orvas Apothecary's Shop; talk to Genn about what's transpired recently. (There's a planned reward for one "side objective" of this dungeon that you'll probably see in the next update- not saying any more, don't want to spoil it.)

If you want to import your save files from an earlier version to a later version, follow these steps:
-Go to your old version of Ruphand, and navigate to the www folder.
-If you have saved files, there should be a folder named "save"; copy the folder.
-Go to your new version of Ruphand, and navigate to the www folder.
-Paste the old save folder into the new version's www folder.

-A few bugs have been fixed behind the scenes. I plan on keeping better track of the bugfixes and other changes going forward.

0.3.0 delayed (and 0.3.0 progress tracker)

Evening, folks. I've got bad news, and good news.

Bad news is, I've been delayed severely; between my day job and other things that came up, 0.3.0 will be delayed, for at least a month or two.

The good news is that I should be able to put some more time into the update now. And while I'm at it, I'll update this very post with my progress every Saturday. (This'll be a rough estimate.)

I'll keep you posted on this; check back every Saturday!

  • Hidden Forge: COMPLETE
  • Main Story Dungeon: COMPLETE
  • Arkenvali Academy: COMPLETE (5/14)
    • Arkenvali Sidequest Dungeon 1: COMPLETE (5/11ish)
      • Arkenvali Sidequest Dungeon 2: COMPLETE (5/14)
      • Crab Rave: --0.3.0 IS LIVE--

      A status report on 0.3.0

      Afternoon!

Work has been going slowly but surely. I've got quite a bit of dialogue to write and planning to do for the Arkenvali sidequest, as it's going to take Brill around almost the entire school; the next main story "dungeon" is actually comparatively small.

I'm not sure when the update will be done; ideally I can get it out within two months of today, but if I'm delayed too much, it'll more likely be around three or four.

Here's a preview of one of the new enemies that will be introduced in the update!

Voltergeists don't linger like most Undead, but they do have the ability to possess their foe's shield, forcing them to Block. Be careful not to get caught on guard!

      Update 0.2.6: Critical bug fixed

      Good afternoon, everyone!

I've just found out about a critical bug in 0.2.6 related to a face set filename that was changed by accident. This bug caused issues when talking to Al'Radi in the Arkenvali Academy.

I just got done reuploading 0.2.6 with the fixed version, but you can also fix the issue by going to www/images/faces and renaming Alra_Di.png to Alra'Di.png.

The fixed version is also a few images lighter; I removed some graphics related to scrapped sidequests. Other than that, it's exactly the same.

0.3.0 is the next version I'm releasing. It's going to be a fairly big update, with one more step in the main story and one more of the sidequests planned for 0.2.5. I also plan to have a new feature in this update: the Hidden Forge, a place where you can upgrade unique gear like the Leaf Shield and Fishman Major Garb.
